Brevard NC Things To Do - Brevard Music Center, Flat Rock Playhouse
Arts & Culture
Brevard NC and the surrounding Asheville and Hendersonville mountain areas are filled with beautiful locations that give visitors a chance to enjoy the outdoors, however having fun outside is not the only enjoyable Brevard NC things to do. Music, theatre, and the arts are all part of the distinct Appalachian Mountain culture found in Asheville, Brevard and the surrounding Western North Carolina Mountain region. When you stay with us at Spirit of the Mountain Retreat and Cabin Rentals, your Hendersonville and Brevard North Carolina Cabin Rental will be close to all of the great arts and cultural experiences in the area.

The Brevard Music Center’s summer music festival takes place each year in the warmer months and hosts a variety of different performers and artists during the season. Visitors to Brevard NC enjoy taking in one of their many concerts and operas in this series.

Founded in 1952 by Robroy Farquhar and his company of “Vagabond Players”, the Flat Rock Playhouse has hosted thousands of performances since it first opened its doors. In 1961 the North Carolina General Assembly officially designated Flat Rock Playhouse as the “State Theatre of North Carolina”, and today it continues its tradition of excellence in performing arts by presenting top quality productions. For eight months out of the year the Flat Rock Playhouse regularly features Broadway musicals, comedies, dramas and youth productions. Don’t miss your chance to enjoy a show at the State Theatre of North Carolina, Flat Rock Playhouse.

For those that enjoy fine art and contemporary crafts, stop by the Folk Art Center attraction on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The Folk Art Center regularly showcases the finest Southern Appalachian art and is the home of the Southern Highland Craft Guild, representing over 300 crafts people from the region. The Folk Art Center hosts several classes and demonstrations and offers a variety of changing exhibits making it a place you simply must stop!

There are several galleries and art museums located throughout Asheville, Hendersonville, and Brevard NC so you’ll want to take some time to browse as many as you can. One place in particular, Hands On!, is a special gallery, and a must stop for kids that love art. Hands On! is strictly a child’s gallery, and provides tons of educational exhibits that inspire children’s imaginations and motivate them to enjoy art in a fun, safe environment. Bring your children by the Hands On! gallery and enjoy a fun filled day of creativity.
